Bishops Park and The Batts

Bishops Park can be accessed from Bishop Auckland Market place.  The woodland includes birds such as Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Common Redstart, Nuthatch, Willow Tit and Jay.  The River Gaunless runs through the park and often holds Dipper, Grey Wagtail, Kingfisher, Mallard & the occasional Goosander.  The Batts is where the River Gaunless meets the River Wear and offers open views across the River Wear and surrounding areas.  Best birds for me at this location include Black Swan, Greenland White-fronted Goose (3 over with Greylags), Mandarin, Little Egret, Common Redstart, Green Woodpecker, Barn Owl, Tawny Owl, Little Owl, Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, Greenshank and Northern Wheatear.
