Gaunless Flats

Gaunless Flats is situated upstream of Bishop Auckland and is probably my least watched sites in Bishop Auckland.  As the name suggests, it is an area of wetland that is often flooded when the water level of the Gaunless rises during when there's been a prolonged spell of heavy rain.  Birds here have included Barn Owl, Short–eared Owl, Common Snipe, Merlin & more.  Best birds include Hoopoe and Merlin.
